Pairing wine to Seafood

Seafood for Christmas? Here's what to pair with it!

Christmas Down Under may look a little different to the rest of the world. Our Christmas lunches or dinners usually consist of a barbeque in the backyard or a picnic on the beach and we drink champagne instead of eggnog (who’s complaining?!). But one thing we do better than anyone else on Christmas is a good seafood spread. Perfectly suited to our hot summer climate, few things top a cold seafood platter on December 25th.

Pairing wine with seafood can be tricky, and most of us tend to gravitate towards white wine for our seafood platters, with popular choices being Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay. However, don’t forget that reds and rose’s can also compliment your Christmas seafood meal.

Fish like Tuna, Marlin or Salmon match with red wine extremely well, and shellfish and oysters are a perfect pair with Pinot Noir. Australia has some excellent sparkling wines that are the perfect drink to have with your classic Australian fish & chips.

If you’re finding it hard to decide what goes with what, we’ve put together a little list of our personal favourites, so enjoy experimenting!
